Predatar works with backup platforms, including Rubrik to boost resilience and provide unprecedented recovery confidence. So, it’s a complementy solution rather than an out-and-out alternative. However, for Rubrik Foundation Edition and Business Edition customers, Predatar can be considered as an alternative to upgrading to Enterprise Edition to achieve greater resilience.

Rubrik & Predatar: Do I really need both?
No. The Rubrik Clean Room (powered by Google Cloud) is used for post-attack forensic analysis to help Rubrik customers get up and running quickly and safely following a cyber incident. While a Predatar CleanRoom can be used in this way too, it’s primary function is proactive validation. Predatar customers put their CleanRooms to work 24/7, running automated workflows that validate the cleanliness, integrity, and recoverability of their backups and snapshots every day.

The main differences are that Predatar’s Recovery Assurance is fully automated, always-on, and supports that validation of backups and snapshots from multiple leading backup and storage vendors. With Rubrik’s Cyber Recovery Simulation, users must manually select the workloads they want to validate and only works with Rubrik backups.

In most cases, no. Rubrik doesn’t currently have a resale agreement in place with Predatar. However, if your Rubrik reseller is also an authorised IBM reseller you can purchase Predatar from them. Alternatively, you can purchase Predatar directly from Predatar, or a Predatar APEX partner. Find one here.
SureBackup requires custom scripting via PowerShell to achieve one-way SIEM integration. Predatar includes two-way API integration with QRadar, Splunk and Microsoft Sentinel ‘out of the box’.
SureBackup uses ClamAV, an open-source antivirus engine with basic signature-based scanning and no automation. Predatar uses Trend Micro Vision One, which adds AI, machine learning, heuristic analysis, telemetry correlation and global threat intelligence, all fully automated and enterprise-grade.
Veeam do not publish statistics on this. Predatar however has found malware and ransomware in more than 80% of its customer backup environments that their production security tools missed.
